A Year of Living Mindfully April: Mindfulness of Senses and Aromatherapy Clay Creations

In April's class, we'll learn how tapping into our five senses can be used to bring our awareness to the present moment. This practice is super useful when experiencing tough emotions like anxiety, fear, and anger. When we focus our attention on our senses (i.e. the sensations on the bottom of our feet, the sound of our breath, the smell of the clay) we can move out of the thoughts in our head that are creating the emotions and into a place of calm. Our art activity for this month is aromatherapy clay creations! Children will get plenty of practice using the clay to tap into the present moment, then take this useful tool home with them for home integration.
