Cooking Up Love - Kids Cooking and Nutrition Classes

We think eating can be an act of love, so our cooking classes are all about empowering the next generation to make food choices that show love to their bodies, their brains, and to the planet. We’ll discover the impact food can have on our body, develop gratitude for all of the incredible things our body can do, and recreate favorite snacks and meals using ingredients that promote our health (and the health of the planet, too!).

Each week we’ll explore plant-based cuisine, learning valuable, life-long kitchen techniques and tools while integrating safety, food knowledge, vocabulary, foreign languages, math, science, world geography, and nutrition. We'll create healthy, sustainable, nourishing recipes using only foods from the earth, empower even the pickiest of eaters to try something new, integrate mindfulness into all that we do, and provide children the tools to create their own super-tasty recipes at home. 

Examples of recipes made include pad thai, falafel, energy bites, zoodles, kid-approved salads + dressings, ice cream, raw fruit pie, tostones, minestrone, mac & cheese, sushi, tacos, acai bowls, sweet potato rosti, nut + seed milks, gazpacho, curries, and MORE!

Kids Yoga Party 

This class is just for the young yogis - no parents allowed! Every second Saturday of the month, drop off the children for a night of yoga, dance, mindfulness, and play designed to cultivate presence of mind, heart, and body. 

During our first hour together, we’ll introduce concepts of mindfulness in an easy-to-understand and playful way through breath work, games, meditation, stories, and art. We’ll develop children’s body awareness and self-esteem with a 30-minute yoga practice, then allow children the remainder of our time together to dance and play. 

Children should wear light, comfortable clothing and eat dinner prior to class, as it is not provided.

Mindful Kids Camp Summer Series with an Emphasis on Emotional Awareness at Wild Thing Yoga

Join us for our summer mindfulness series at Wild Thing Yoga! Each week we'll explore emotional awareness in a playful and hands-on way, integrating movement into each class. Children will walk away with an understanding of how their emotions, words, and actions impact themselves and others and the skills to appropriately express their emotions. 

The practice of mindfulness at any age is both simple and profound, and research has shown that there are many benefits of mindfulness for children. It helps them to recognize their emotions and empowers them to choose their response versus quickly reacting. It strengthens their “attention muscle” and accesses the parts of the mind that deal with focus, decision-making, and self-regulation. It supports and enhances learning, emotional intelligence, and overall well-being across the lifespan. Our four-week mindfulness series will incorporate practices that connect students to themselves through breath work, games, stories, art, and movement with lessons designed to provide children with a solid foundation to build their own healthy emotional regulation. 

Mindfulness is simply being fully engaged in the present moment with a mindset of kindness and curiosity, but it’s a capacity that must be tapped, developed, and deepened through practice. A mindfulness practice offers an effective path for children to develop healthy responses to a chaotic world around them and within them. During each class, we’ll introduce mindfulness to children in an easy-to-understand and playful way. We will cultivate presence of mind, heart, and body and empower children to be kind to themselves and others. We'll have fun, be silly, and learn in a hands-on way.  Join us!

Series 2: July 16th, July 23rd, July 30th, and August 6th

Free Outdoor Yoga at the Deschutes Brewery Lawn 

Join us on the Deschutes Brewery lawn every Sunday morning this summer for a FREE, fun, family-friendly yoga class followed by $2 beers and community building.

While adults get their flow on, we'll host the kids section for children age 5-12 at the same time on the upper lawn. Bring your yoga mat or a beach towel, and come early to check the kids in. Adult class is taught by Helen Cloots and guest teachers from Wild Thing Yoga.

Outdoor Yoga at LOGE Entrada 

Join us Fridays and Saturdays this summer for a family-friendly yoga session at the beautiful outdoor space at LOGE Entrada. Adult yoga will be taught by teachers from Wild Thing Yoga while we lead the kids (age 5-12) at the same time.

We are honored to support our local Bend community and enjoy working with schools, sports teams, and groups of any kind. 

We also offer in-home instruction using your current curriculum or Obsidian Education's curriculum, for children age five to twelve, available on an hourly or daily basis.
